Gray paint colors for 2013 …
So my thoughts on Gray paint colors …
First, Gray paint colors are such a popular color choice for interiors right now.
Second, Gray spans from warm to cool. The spectrum of grays can skew from off-white to deep charcoal.
And Gray can also take on a blue or violet tone and finds itself in the taupe, beige family as well.
Finally, Gray paint colors play so well off of wood tones (flooring) and at the same time emphasizes base and crown moldings. ~ nancy
The psychology of color: Gray … a few bits of information I found …
The effect gray has is conservative, neutral, stable
-or- it can be depicted as indifferent or cold.
Gray can be energizing if it tends towards the lighter neutral tones
-or-depressing if to dark and heavily used.
Gray can be looked at as upscale and elegant
-or- boring and dull.
my thoughts on the application of using gray paint:
First of all I LOVE gray, it is one of my absolute favorite colors to use.
I agree that gray can be energizing if it tends towards the neutral tones. A neutral gray is the perfect backdrop for almost any additional color from white to bright.
As with any paint color the deeper the hue the more overpowering it becomes, that being said, it’s a personal preference – if you’re looking darker more dramatic space the deeper the hue the more dramatic.
I don’t agree that gray is dull or boring, designers and homeowners have embraced this color as the new neutral. Any paint color can be dull and boring, it’s all about how it’s used and what is paired with it.
I do think that gray is sophisticated, upscale and elegant. Gray has a way of taking a plain room and bringing new life to it. I think its because gray plays so well off of wood tones (flooring) and at the same time emphasizes base and crown moldings.
So much for a color that lends itself towards indifference. As with any paint color –
choose carefully and thoughtfully as to the shade for your space in keeping with the overall look and feel of the room.
A must see Candice Olson recently released a paint deck together with Benjamin Moore that contain some beautiful gray options. I Also like Eternity from Benjamin Moore for a blue gray and Edgecomb Gray from Benjamin Moore for a taupe/gray.
