Questions??? Is Benjamin Moore Baby Seal Black appropriate for an office space?
I love this deep rich gray/black color but without knowing exactly what you space looks like, I want to give you some office paint ideas.
When designing an office there are a few things to take into consideration ~
1. What is the type of business you are in?
2. What is the function of the space you are designing for?
3. What is the image you want to portray to clients?
4. What is the vibe your want to have for you and co-workers?
5. What colors do you like? What does your staff like?
6. What existing pieces are you going to use in the space?
7. What is your lighting?
8. What is your space plan?
9. How large is your space including ceiling height?
10. What else is going in your space?
11. How much wall space will there be? And how much wall space will there be after accessories have been placed.
12. What is your design esthetic?
Without any information on your space, I’m providing some general thoughts ~
Without seeing any pictures or having any information, I’m assuming you mean to paint all 4 walls in baby seal black in a typical office space ~ if so my initial reaction to this is no for the reason of function alone.
Productivity in a black (or very dark gray) space can be difficult just because black will draw light from the space and your eyes will need to work harder.
My next initial reaction is that you are looking for or are drawn to power colors. In Feng Shui black tones are representative of power and money.
However ~ note how in the home office above from Ballard Designs there is a chandelier directly above the work station, very clever.
Office paint ideas … My final answer to the question, “is Benjamin Moore baby seal black appropriate for an office space” is it depends!
my tips ~
As with any design, start with a plan and keep your options open.
Save yourself some time and money put together a few comprehensive design plans ~
First ~ with walls painted baby seal black – then choose furnishings & accessories
Second ~ focusing on power pieces for the room first then choosing paint color last
Third ~ begin by using baby seal black as an accent wall or paint for your doors
Last but not least ~ if you feel baby seal black is too dark, try a lighter gray
If you decide to paint your office in baby seal black, make sure you have ample lighting.
If you decide not to paint baby seal black on all four walls, a statement piece can be just as impactful as an entire room painted in a bold color; such as a powerful desk and chair, in this way the focus is on the importance of the desk area ~ work ~ meetings ~ business transactions ~ phone calls, it says this is the pulse of the company, this is where deals happen. And it says to whoever enters that they are important. Continue adding this power color to your office by introducing black accents throughout your space. Black shelving would be a great choice along an entire wall combined with a black desk and a collection of dynamic pieces of artwork in black and white color scheme appropriate for an office space.
