Balance is the key for me when it comes to decorating a bedroom ~ nancy
There are endless bedroom decorating ideas it can become overwhelming; classic blue and white, racy red or cool gray there are so many choices, so here’s a plan to help you out, keep focused enjoy the ride and don’t worry if you get off track and change your mind, it’s all part of the process.
Taking into consideration the individual personality of the room + all the design elements =
Function & Storage needs
Paint – walls, ceiling & trim
Furnishings – wood pieces and upholstery
Accessories – lighting, artwork & additional items
Style = Overall Design Plan.
This is square one – it’s a must for me to understand who I am decorating for, what they like, who they are, blending the masculine and feminine styles all of this is intricate to the design plan.
I love this design by Darryl Carter for his D.C. bedroom.

Floor Plan, Function & Storage needs = Furnishings.
The floor plan, function and storage needs are key elements determining all furnishings for space.
Bedding & Flooring = Color Scheme.
Next, I would jump to bedding & flooring. The bed is the focal point (unless you have an ocean view) determining the color palette. Flooring options need to be considered at this point bringing cohesiveness to the space.

Paint = Overall “feel” of the room.
This is where paint becomes the major player. Without the right paint the design can fall flat, for $20-$70 per gallon probably the least amount of money you will pay for a design element in the room and the most important to determine the overall “feel” of the room.

Furnishings = Function.
Here is where we circle back to the Floor Plan, Function and Storage needs, which have already been taken care of, yay!

Accessories = Personality.
Adding accessories is not an after thought – choose carefully and wisely. Accessories can make or break a room especially a bedroom where space and lighting is usually limited.
