Do you tend toward a cool color decorating palette?
While at the Design Bloggers Conference, we had the pleasure to visit with Alexa Hampton via Skype.
If anyone could make Skyping an entire presentation entertaining, it was definitely Alexa Hampton. She was endearing, upbeat and insightful and her work of course is amazing.
Here’s a Cool Color decorating question …
It’s funny how certain quotes stick out in your mind, one of the things I remember her saying is that a “cool palette is more youthful”.
According to Wikipedia
Warm colors are often said to be hues from red through yellow, browns and tans included; cool colors are often said to be the hues from blue-green through blue violet, most grays included.
I never quite looked at a cool vs. warm palette in that way, and have been thinking about it ever since. Do I think a cool palette is more youthful??
I know your waiting for the decision lol! but yes I do agree, I think a cool palette is more youthful than a warm palette.
But, what is a color palette?
A Palette is a range of colors used in a particular color scheme.
So, adding a warm accent color (yellow) a cool palette (gray) provides contrast but doesn’t change the overall color scheme …
so go ahead … add a pop of color!
And what is youthful?
I interpreted this as a nod to colors we are seeing emerging as trends in the marketplace today.
I think you can use traditional furnishings or decorate an architectural space that is clearly traditional but add an updated cool color palette to make it more “youthful” as in the photo from Benjamin Moore below.
I love it when you hear something that challenges you look at things differently … it’s inspiring!
