I spent the better part of yesterday updating my website making sure it was mobile responsive … and now it is!
I hope you’ll enjoy reading my blog on any of your devices now 🙂
Just like my website that needs to function, so does your home.
My tip ~ Design with a plan for your space.
Don’t worry if it’s a long-term goal you’ll be working towards it … and in the end your vision will come to life.
So whether or not you are beginning with a blank space or have pieces you want to use – or you have a tiny budget or deep pockets – or if you’re tackling a whole room or just a window treatment …
Start with a floor plan or an elevation like the drawing below from Intentional Designs.
No. 1 Consideration
How do you want the space to function?
This will determine how you furnish your space.
Back into this by how many people would you ideally like to seat?
you may not get all the seating you were hoping for but that’s ok, think about borrowing chairs from an adjoining room or get creative with adding ottomans or floor pillows.
Case good pieces.
Tables; end tables, cocktail table(s), desk, built-ins etc.
task lighting for reading, low lighting for relaxing, lighting to showcase artwork.
Window treatments, accent pillows, area rugs, artwork etc.
Fabrics + Finishes.
From top to bottom; paint color(s), flooring, fabrics for window treatments and upholstered pieces, finishes for case goods, mirrors etc.
Adding your paint colors and fabrics to a drawing can enhance your visualization even further!
For more information on the fabrics and paint colors used in the drawings …

Fabrics in the third photo “Blue Bedroom”

Paint used in the drawings
Benjamin Moore Williamsburg Collection.
One thing to keep in mind … is that each decision affects the next.
So even though I’ve listed the elements that go into a floor plan they all work together at the same time…
Have a great weekend, and as always thanks for sharing your week with me! ~ Nancy
