Bedroom Design is often one of the most creative and without a doubt the most personal room you will decorate.
And when it comes to Master Bedroom Design there are 2 key elements that top my list to consider, personal style & function, everything else falls under these categories.
No. 1 Your personal style.
How to get your look ~
Most clients intuitively know what their style is even if they don’t have a name for it. This is where images are so useful for a designer to help you achieve your dream bedroom. Everything from Pinterest to Shopping sites to visiting your local stores is helpful to communicate with your designer or if you are working on the project yourself. This way you get a good idea of what’s available and what you like or more importantly what you don’t like!

Color. Color is also a major player when choosing your master bedroom design.
Do you lean towards a warm or cool palette, a neutral monotone design scheme or a room full of color? Do you want to keep the colors soft and light, neutral or do you prefer darker tones?
Top Color Schemes for bedrooms … Blue. No surprise, blue is the no. 1 choice for homeowners.

Patterns. What about patterns, do you like them? And where do you add them?
My take-away tip ~
The Guest Bedroom below from HGTV Smart Home 2016 utilizes a large scale wallpaper (or wall covering) as their main pattern for the room with just the right touch of a medium scale graphic print on the accent pillows plus textural fabrics in solid colors supports the design keeping the palette deliberate.

No. 2 Function.
Having a Master Bedroom space plan is critical. I actually think the master bedroom design is as crucial as a kitchen design. Just think if you can’t function in your bedroom how frustrating that would become and you really need to feel like your bedroom is your retreat.
Ask yourself these kind of questions
Do you want a TV?? Adequate lighting to read? Do you have space for a sitting area? Do you need More storage?
Space Planning. What does your space look like? Do you have a drop-dead view? Or, do you want to hide anything and everything going on outside the window? What kind of natural light do you get? What’s the flooring situation? Do you have an attached master bathroom?
My take-away tip ~
The Master Bedroom below from HGTV Smart Home 2016 is spacious, has great windows (with a view) and beautiful wood floors overall good bones! I like how they utilized area rugs to designate the “zones”, the sitting area & bed area. If they just used one area rug in the sitting area the scale would be off and the bed would seem less important but 2 area rugs balances the room and isn’t that just what we need at the end of the day!
So you guessed it, our room of the month … Master Bedrooms!
Enjoy your day! ~ Nancy
