Guest Rooms need updating now and then just like any room of the house. And with Summer in full swing, it’s the perfect time to get ready for guests! So take a look at your guest room, does it need a new paint color? Or does the bedding need to be freshened up? And what about the accessories and lighting?
So here’s a Checklist for Refreshing your Guest Rooms this Summer
First things first, take a look around the room … Do you like how the room looks? Does the room meet your needs? Is the bed comfortable and the bedding fresh?
Before you begin, what’s your ultimate wish list for the room?
Do you need a multi-functional space? If so, would you like to fit in a reading nook or a desk? Or do you want a dedicated guest room only? Would you like to change the design style or update the color scheme? My Tip~ Gather images to help you visualize the overall design plan.
First, decide on the floor plan.
Perhaps you started with a twin bed and now you are updating to a queen. Measuring your space will allow you to know what size end tables you can fit beside the bed. Or if you have room for a chair, etc.
Second, make design decisions.
Such as the furniture, flooring, paint colors, bedding, window treatments & accessories. This is the fun part! But make sure to take your measurements with you to the store.
Third, What to do if you are stuck on the design.
Here are some tips if you find you can’t make a decision or find something that you like. Begin with an inspiration piece. Such as artwork, an area rug or fabrics from the bedding or draperies. Also, reference the images you collected to help you get back on track. Create a mood board so you can further visualize the room design & color palette.
Now time for the work to begin …
Remove all the clutter, box it up and save it to go through at a later date. Also, remove all the furniture, bedding and window treatments. Now you are beginning with a blank slate. And no worries, you may be able to reintroduce some of the pieces back into your new guest room.
And with the room freshly painted you are ready to add the selected furnishings & accessories!
So, thanks for stopping by today, we hope you’ve left inspired ~ Nancy
