There are many different kinds of bed pillows. Beginning with Shams; standard shams (26″ x 20″), king shams (36″ x 20″), euro shams (26″x26″). Then moving along to decorative pillows in different shapes and sizes like lumbar, neck rolls and 18″ or 24″ pillows. So, what’s the best way to add a few pillows to your bed? And which ones do you choose?
For starters, bed pillows such as shams are usually selected for the size of your bed. For example, a King bed usually takes 2 King Shams. A Queen, Double or Twin would take a Standard Sham Size. And then there are Euro Shams which are a 26″ x 26″ square that can be used on any size bed.
Layering your bed pillows …
So below you can see a couple of bed pillows propped up against the upholstered headboard. Then working our way forward, a set of king shams. And finally, a set of euro shams.
And if you want to go one step further, layer a lumbar pillow in front of the euro shams. Lumbar pillows can come in many sizes; however, they are universally rectangular in shape.
If a lumbar pillow is not your thing perhaps try a neck roll. A neck roll is a round cylinder shaped pillow that is available in varying sizes.
Or you can begin with the euro shams first against your headboard. And build out from there adding standard shams then a lumbar pillow.
When Layering bed pillows there really isn’t a magic formula like; 2-bed pillows + 2 shams + 2 euro shams. As you can see below the layering can continue on with the addition of decorative pillows in varying sizes.
In fact, you don’t need to use shams at all. In the bedroom below, the decorative pillows in different shapes & sizes add color, texture, pattern, and style to the bedding design.
