Adding an Area Rug to your room or updating one that you currently have will revive your room in a heartbeat. Area Rugs come in a variety of styles, shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. Have you ever looked at a room and can’t quite figure out what is off? It could be what’s under your feet. Flooring is such an integral part of a design plan. And an area rug is an important element, cohesively bringing the design together while defining your space. Not to mention, adding color, texture, and pattern.
Styles, Shapes & Options
Flor.com provides a unique carpet tile product. Design your own area rug by combining one pattern or by selecting several carpet tiles.
Natural fibers such as sisal or jute, or a combination of wool, cotton, sisal or jute, add texture to a room.
As far as style, they are available in so many different styles and patterns to fit any home décor. Here we see a Mid-Century Modern Living Room and a Traditional Bedroom. Both with large area rugs that further the design aesthetic while spaciously keeping the room looking proportional.
And area rugs can come in shapes as well. As seen in the bedroom above the faux animal skin rug continues to trend.
But how do you choose the right area rug size?
First, make sure that it fits the scale of the room. Creating a floor plan really helps to determine what size rug you really need. Take it one step further by taping off that area in your room (with blue painters tape) to visually see the layout.
Simple Quick Guidelines
1For the Living or Family Room, ideally, the furniture should easily sit on or at least be close to the area rug. Consequently, if it is too small, the room looks small and choppy. However, when the rug is the right size it creates a sense of spaciousness, allowing your eye to move around the room with ease.
2In a Dining Area, you want to have all four legs of your chairs on the rug when pulled out. Sometimes that isn’t possible due to space constraints, so just go with the largest size that works.
3And in bedrooms, rugs are generally placed under the bed and extend out on either side and at the bottom. Again, if space constraints cause issues, consider using a runner on either side of the bed. However, in a bedroom, you have more leeway with the placement. As seen in the image above, the specialty faux animal skin rug, looks great on an angle.
