Which home renovations are right for you?

Home Renovations can be lengthy pricey projects. From replacing windows & doors to updating your kitchen or bathroom. Designing a space along with product/material selections for some may be a daunting task. So how do you decide which home renovations will be best for you?
First, is resale imminent? If so, I would recommend discussing with your local Realtor which home renovations will garner a higher return on your investment. For example, if you live in a primarily warm or cold climate, an updated HVAC system and/or energy-efficient windows would be important to buyers.

Second, are you looking to age in place? I know this may sound too far in the future or something we just don’t want to think about. However, with an aging population making small changes such as swapping out carpeting for wood or LVT flooring will make a big difference.

Third, sometimes the home just needs TLC due to age. Could be a roof replacement, a design refresh, reimagining a room for the grandkids, or a paint update.
Home Renovations …
Renovate means “restore to a good state of repair.” This makes me feel good because we don’t always need to look for big-ticket items to refresh our home.
The Last Word …
Finally, if you are not ready to take on large renovations small changes will add up over time. Just commit to doing something each month or quarterly as your budget allows. Simply update your landscaping, or begin painting one room at a time. Update lighting or window treatments. Selecting one manageable project and finishing it gives you a great feeling of accomplishment!

My Tip
First, create a to-do list for each room in the house prioritizing each item within the room. Then decide which space you want to begin to renovate/decorate. Sometimes I bop around a bit because I’ll stumble upon the perfect piece for a room on my list. Or seasonally I may pivot to the outdoors adding potted plants or outdoor decor. But I know I’m staying on track and on my predetermined budget.
